Story Round-Up
- Stellar Blade has been rated 18+ in South Korea citing nudity and excessive violence.
- The game has yet to be rated by the ESRB and PEGI. Regional variances might result in slightly different ratings.
Stellar Blade has been rated 18+ by the Korean Game Management Committee citing the elements of excessive violence and nudity. Ahead of its launch this year, the game has been deemed unfit for players under the specified age.
The upcoming exclusive for Sony’s PlayStation 5 is an action-adventure game that incorporates various sci-fi themes. It was first revealed in 2019 as Project Eve, being in development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
During 2021’s PlayStation Showcase, ShiftUp revealed the project as a PS5 exclusive. In a recent interview, Kim Hyung Tae talked about how the team focused on one platform for an optimized experience.
Speaking to GamesRadar+, Kim discussed how the dev team paid “special attention” to Eve’s backside. As he described, “The player is always facing the back of the character when they’re playing. That’s what they see the most of, so we thought this was pretty important.”
The marketing material of Stellar Blade has shown exciting gameplay and narrative sequences without shying away from certain elements ShiftUp is known for. It was recently confirmed that Eve’s design was based on a body scan of a South Korean model, allowing the devs to fully harness their creativity and expression.
Given that Stellar Blade depicts excessive violence, including and possibly not limited to, mutilation and decapitation followed by the skin-tight wardrobe of Eve, it’s understandable why the South Korean rating committee assigned an 18+ label to it. A story focusing on alien invasion and fighting back against an extraterrestrial race is sure to explore some dark themes.

Having said that, it’s yet to be determined what ratings ESRB and PEGI will assign to Stellar Blade. These things often differ from region to region so it’s too soon to draw any conclusions on that front.
Stellar Blade launches exclusively for the PlayStation 5 on April 26, 2024.
