Speaking to Polish financial website Stockwatch, CD Projekt Red’s CFO reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to a microtransaction-free experience for single-player games.
This stance aligns with the developer’s past practices in acclaimed single-player titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt & Cyberpunk 2077.
Nielubowicz left the door open for microtransactions within the company’s multiplayer projects, suggesting a case-by-case evaluation for future titles.
Moving on, physical releases remain undecided for upcoming games, with the decision likely hinging on market demands at launch. In addition, pricing for AAA entries may be adjusted based on market fluctuations.
Elsewhere, Project Sirius — the upcoming Witcher spin-off — was confirmed as a large-scale AAA title targeting a broader audience than The Witcher 3. This broader appeal, coupled with its multiplayer elements, suggests the potential inclusion of microtransactions.
Beyond Project Sirius, CD Projekt Red has a full slate of AAA projects in development, including the highly-anticipated remake of The Witcher, the next mainline game, and the sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 which we don’t know much about at the moment.
CD Projekt Red may set a precedent for other studios moving forward when it comes to MTX.
