Larian Studios, recently lauded for its achievement with Baldur’s Gate 3, has garnered further acclaim for its support of other developers.
A recent discovery reveals Larian’s role as a significant backer of The Game Kitchen’s successful Metroidvania, Blasphemous.
According to The Game Kitchen’s Lead Level Designer, Enrique Colinet, Larian Studios was one of the biggest contributors to Blasphemous’ 2017 Kickstarter campaign.
Its contribution of $1,000 placed it in the “The Punisher” tier, the second-highest funding level. Furthermore, Larian reportedly did not claim any associated backer rewards.
Not many people knows this, but @larianstudios was one of the biggest contributors during the @BlasphemousGame Kickstarter campaign.
They dropped a 4 figures sum, never asked for their rewards and just kept making one of the best games ever done in recent years.

This act of support holds particular weight considering it predates the release of Divinity: Original Sin 2, the title that propelled Larian to mainstream success.
It indicates a commitment to supporting promising indie developers even before their own financial security was fully established. Goodwill of this nature is what the current industry needs more of to thrive instead of succumbing to the greed of suits and agenda warriors.
Larian Studios’ Kickstarter profile reveals past backing for 25 projects. The specific titles remain unknown as Larian’s profile is private.
However, the evidence suggests a consistent pattern of supporting up-and-coming studios. This dedication to fostering new talent within the industry adds another layer to Larian’s reputation as a developer worthy of gamer admiration.
Blasphemous & its sequel are available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PC, and last-gen consoles. Baldur’s Gate 3 can be purchased on current-gen hardware, PC, and macOS as well.
