Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is sitting at 92 on Metacritic based on 125 critic reviews.

Its current score is based on a staggering 125 critic reviews, earning it the rather coveted “must-play” seal. Funnily enough, as reviews started pouring in a couple of days ago, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth managed to secure a rating of 93 from 119 verdicts.

That achievement led to it becoming the second-highest-rated game of all time in the iconic RPG series. During that phase, Rebirth sat under FF9 with the latter having a score of 94 and other names with several 92s once you go down the ladder from the number 2 spot.

Now, however, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth sits among the various 92-ers of the series, a group that also has the original FF7 in it. That said, it’s clear that the game is a hit among the critics even if some claim that it stumbles at pivotal moments.

FF7 Rebirth is the second entry in a three-part remake project of the legendary RPG. Set after the events of FF7 Remake, Rebirth takes the group outside of Midgar with major changes to the original story from this point onward.

Square Enix’s venture to bring FF7 to a new audience has been rather time-intensive. It was recently hinted that the final part has a release date at some point in 2028. While each entry is a full-fledged game with hours of content, the overall project of FF7 would end up taking almost a decade to complete.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth arrives as a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 5 on February 29, 2024. Elsewhere, the series’ critically acclaimed MMORPG, Final Fantasy 14, is getting its next expansion in the summer of 2024.
