Elsewhere, new details for the JRPG provide more insight as to how its gameplay will function. Metaphor features a loop that’s tied to the time of day. Daytime hours will have players go on quests, explore dungeons, and hunt for treasures.
However, as night falls, the focus shifts towards fostering relationships with companions and cultivating character virtues. The gameplay elements are quite similar to the modern Persona titles. Given how the people behind Persona 3, 4, and 5 are working on Metaphor: ReFantazio, it was bound to happen.
Furthermore, the Xbox Japan page shows that Metaphor is rated Cero C in the country for elements of “Crime” and “Violence.”
With its intriguing gameplay structure, innovative approach to character development, and classic Atlus flair, Metaphor: ReFantazio is shaping up to be a captivating entry to join the JRPG space and the larger RPG genre. Earlier this week, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth scored a 92 on Metacritic with zero negative verdicts.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is in development for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
